Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an O-licence to get haulage insurance?
If you're carrying goods for hire and reward (i.e., being paid to transport others' goods), you need a standard Operator's Licence. If you're only carrying your own goods, you may need a restricted licence or may be exempt. We can advise based on your operation.
What's the difference between goods in transit and operators' liability?
Goods in transit covers the physical goods you're carrying against damage or theft. Operators' liability covers your legal liability to the goods owner under the contract of carriage (CMR convention for international work). Most hauliers need both.
Does the policy cover driving in Europe?
Standard UK policies provide minimum legal cover in EU countries, but comprehensive cover and goods in transit usually need to be extended for European operations. We can arrange appropriate cover for your operating territories.
What about specialist loads like hazardous goods?
Hazardous goods (ADR loads), abnormal loads, and other specialist cargo require specific cover and must be declared. We can arrange appropriate policies, but you'll need the relevant operator authorisations and driver training.
How does claims experience affect my premium?
Fleet premiums are heavily influenced by claims history. A poor record will increase costs significantly, while a clean record helps secure Market Access. We can advise on risk management to help control claims and premiums.
